Media Autobiography

We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with media; it is impossible to go a day without it making its way into our media dependent lives. Here are my experiences with eight different types of media:

1. Books

I first fell in love with reading when I read the first Harry Potter book. I know, how typical. It’s true though, once I read the first one it was game over, I had to read the whole series…and then read it again. Books require something from the reader, that’s why I appreciate them so much; you have to use your imagination to make the stories come to life.

2. Newspaper/News

To be perfectly honest, I hate news. I hate that all people ever report on are crimes and celebrity sleaze. I want to know what’s going on in the world and my community, but I don’t want to be afraid all the time. I also don’t care how “Kim Kardashian stuns in mocha and white gown”

3. Magazines

I’ll pick up a magazine when I’m getting my hair done or when I have to travel on a bus or plane, but other than that I don’t spend money on them. Sometimes I like to know what the “latest fall trends” are or “what scarf suits your body type”…they amuse me.
4. Movies

I love movies. I could spend hours watching movies back to back, especially if I’m lazy or sick because they don’t require you to think, just watch. However I do think a lot during movies, I love to find errors that the movie editors didn’t catch. My favorite movie of all time is the 2000 remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey. Weirdest favorite movie ever, but it has been my favorite since I saw it in the theaters.

5. Audio

I think, like most people my age, I’m constantly listening to music. I’m listening to some J-Lo and Iggy Iz as I type... Why is this song so catchy? “big big big booty but you gotta big booty…”

6. Radio

I also listen to the radio everyday. I have no way to connect my phone to my stereo so I’m unfortunately stuck with the radio. I have grown very fond of JV and Selena in the Morning talk show.

7. Television

I actually don’t watch that much television. The only thing I have set up to record on my DVR is Dancing with the Stars because I’m secretly a 50-year-old woman. I think most shows on television now are just shit. If I ever watch television I flip through the channels until I find a marathon of an older show from the 90’s or early 2000’s. My favorite shows to watch when I find them are Fresh Prince, Friends, Seinfeld, Saved by the Bell, Roseanne, Will & Grace… you get the idea.

8. Internet

I have deleted almost all of my social media accounts. I still have a pinterest for when I’m feeling crafty and need some inspiration. I deleted everything because I don’t enjoy mass communicating everything about my life. I also don’t care about what other people are posting.
